When someone invite you to a meal in Thailand, the words of the invitation mean“come and eat rice”. In fact, nearly all Thai dishes are eaten with rice. Rice grows there very easily because the climate (气候) is warm and there is much rain.
The food that is served(端上) is always cut into pieces, so there is no need to use knives and forks but, instead, special spoons and forks are used. The Thais used to eat with their hands and now there are still some people who eat in this way. There is a special way of doing it.
First they wash their right hands in a bowl of water--they only eat with their right hands. They are careful not to let the food touch the palms(掌心) of their hands. After the meal, the hands are again carefully washed.
The meal usually has several different dishes. They are all hot. They are served in bowls which everyone shares, though each person has their own bowl of rice. As Thailand has a long coastline, it is not surprising that fish and shellfish play an important part in Thai cooking.

School is not the safe place as it used to be. How to keep school safer? How to help students stay away from danger? There are many activities that teachers can do to teach safety in an easy way. Here are some stories from the students who have had the safety class in No. 1 Middle School.
Mike Smith: About Sports Safety
Once, our head teacher made up a story about sports safety. All we needed to do was to point out safe and unsafe sports behaviors in the story. From this lesson, we knew we should always do warm-up(热身)activities before playing sports and drink some water after that.
Amy Young: About Classroom Safety
Yes, making up stories is a good way to learn and enjoy ourselves. We were once asked to make up a story about a boy called Little Naughty. He always did something naughty(淘气的)in the classroom and got himself into trouble. In this way, we learned to behave(行为)well and get on well with each other.
Frank Green: About Fire Safety
In our school, we have a fire emergency response practice(火警应急演习)in September every year. So we know where to go if there is a fire in school. We learn to use the fire extinguisher(灭火器), too. Grace and Karen are twins. They wear the same clothes and tie their hair in the same way. It is not easy for their classmates and teachers to tell them apart sometimes.
Grace and Karen hate Saturdays. Unlike their classmates, they have to get up early at seven every Saturday to prepare for their lessons. An hour later, Grace has to attend the art lesson and Karen has to attend her ballet lesson.
"How I wish I could do something different today, "said the twins together. Suddenly, an idea came to Grace and Karen at the same time. "How would you like to be me for a day?" they asked each other. It seemed like a wonderful plan to them. After they described their own friends to each other, Grace put on Karen's ballet dress while Karen put Grace's brushes and paints into her bag. Then they left for their classes.
When the art lesson started, Karen was lost. Unlike Grace, Karen was poor at drawing. When the art lesson finally ended, Karen didn't dare to hand in her work.
Meanwhile, Grace did a bad job in the ballet class as well. As she had no idea about the dance steps, she had to follow her classmates all the time. As a result, she kept knocking into them. Their ballet teacher became impatient with her, "Karen, you should remember the basic steps. You can't always copy what others are doing."
When Karen and Grace got home, they were tired out. They decided that they would never try to be someone else they were not. It seemed that the grass was not always greener on the other side.
